From the Desk of Hey There Ray

For the entire time I've lived in my apartment (just over a year), this desk has been cluttered with junk and never used for it's original purpose. Recently, I have been wanting to be able to work without getting distracted and sitting at a desk seemed to be the best solution. Although the desk or walls may not be my ideal colors, I decided to work with what I had and make the best of it!

My first stop was Target, where I got most of the supplies for the desk redecoration, or "redeskoration" if you will. Target is one of my favorite places to shop for anything, ask anyone that knows me. They have such a great selection and even better prices. First, I started with organizational pieces, such as this clear 3 section container. It's doing a great job holding all of my smaller office supplies (and lip balm, obviously) without adding any visual weight.

Keeping with the clear theme, I chose this file holder and some fun file folders, that I actually found in the One Spot. For the longest time, I was keeping all of my important documents at work, which obviously is not a good idea. I'm glad to have a cute and colorful place to store all of my boring papers, yay!

Next, I got some neccessary supplies such as highlighters, pens and scissors. Check out those scissors...they have gold blades. Not that you can see them, you'll have to take my word for it. Either way, so cute and so practical! The light I chose (below) was a bit short, so I grabbed some of my favorite colorful books and magazines to lift it up. I think the end result is quite nice!

Now for the DIY aspect of this post... I knew I wanted a clear glass lamp because I had already used so much color in this "redeskoration," and I happened to have an old plain white lampshade lying around. I went to Michael's and bought some gold acrylic paint and a circular sponge brush. The actual process of this was really simple, just dip your sponge in the paint, dab a little off and press to the shade. The only tough part was trying to get the dots equally spaced. After I did this, I found this tutorial that makes life so much easier. Oh well, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I also spray painted some old frames that were just collecting dust and added some scrapbook paper I found at Michael's. The result is a nice graphic gallery wall that adds interest without completely distracting from my lovely work area.

One last thing, which may seem strange, but I also purchased a wireless mouse from Amazon. It's the AmazonBasics wireless mouse and it seriously makes the world of a difference not having to use the touchpad all the time. If you're in the market for a mouse, this one is a quality, affordable option.

I am so glad that I decided to actually put in the time and effort into making my home office a pleasant area to be in. I think it makes working on projects so much more enjoyable. I will definitely be using the area to write many more blog posts to come! Hope you enjoyed!
